Ionian Stories: Watch Our Top Tips in Action in our new film!
Reading a guide is one thing. Watching a skipper put it into practice, on the water, in real conditions, is another. That's exactly what our new video Ionian Stories sets out to do
Our Sustainable Sailing Guide sets out clear, practical steps for sailing responsibly in Greek waters, from anchoring away from seagrass to managing waste on board. But guides work best alongside a real example, so we teamed up with skipper Dominique, who shows viewers what these top tips actually look like in practice, on deck, on shore, and at anchor.
Dominique has lived and sailed in the Ionian for many years, including as a charter skipper, so if anyone knows these waters well, she does! Watching her, you'll notice she's already doing much of this without thinking twice about it. A few of the tips might raise a knowing smile from sailors who've been out here a while. Consider them a gentle reminder rather than a lecture, and a handy head start if you're newer to sailing in Greece.

What's in the video
Filmed on board and ashore in the Ionian, one of Greece's most beautiful cruising grounds, the video follows Dominique demonstrating many of our top tips in real time:
1. Anchoring with care: how to identify Posidonia seagrass from the deck and choose a sandy spot.
2. Managing waste on board: simple routines for holding tanks, and managing rubbish and recycling during a charter.
3. Respecting marine wildlife: keeping a safe distance and slowing down around dolphins and other marine life, a point that matters especially in the Ionian, home to the Ionian Dolphin Project. She also reminds us to help by reporting any wildlife sightings and keeping away from Formicula!
None of this is complicated, and that's rather the point. Eachpractice takes only a small adjustment to a skipper's routine, and togetherthey make a real difference to the waters we all sail in. Dominique makes itlook easy, because after years in these waters, it is.
Why it matters
Sustainability information often stops at the page. A written guide can tell you where seagrass grows or how to set up a holding tank routine, but watching someone do it, and seeing how little it changes the sailing experience, makes it easier to put into practice yourself. Seeing a skipper as experienced as Dominique treat these habits as second nature is also a nice reassurance that sustainable sailing and confident, capable sailing are the same thing.
