Shaping Eco-Moorings in Greece: Sector Roundtable at the Greek Seagrass Forum

As Marine Protected Areas take shape across Greece, attention is turning to a practical question: how anchoring will function in this new context.

Sustainable Sailing Greece is convening a sector roundtable on eco-moorings during the Greek Seagrass Forum:

30 April | 11:00–13:00 | French Institute of Athens

The discussion will bring together companies from the sailing sector and stakeholders to focus on a key question: how will anchoring function in practice as Greece moves forward with Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).

As new MPAs are being designated in the Ionian Sea and the South Aegean, the transition from policy to implementation is already underway. For the sailing and yachting sector, this means a shift in how anchoring will be managed particularly in relation to protecting Posidonia oceanica meadows.

Eco-mooring systems are emerging as a practical solution to reduce seabed disturbance while maintaining safe and reliable access across key sailing destinations.

Charter companies, marinas, and sector stakeholders are invited to sign the Eco-Mooring Commitment ahead of the roundtable. Sustainable Sailing Greece has made it straightforward to participate and be included among the early supporters contributing to this discussion.

By joining, companies signal early alignment with the direction of travel and that they stand ready to help ensure that implementation reflects real operational conditions. Sustainable Sailing Greece will also share optional materials to support how participation can be communicated across company channels.
